The final making method is coiling. Initial thoughts are that as I like to work in wet clay, that this maybe a good option for me. Again using the plaster cast former with material to help moving the form I slowly laid the foundations for this piece. Each make is getting bigger, this one broader than the other two. Slower than solid and slab building the piece required more support through the build. The biggest challenge was enclosing the form but I turned the form on its side so that the coils were more supported when smoothing over.
Half way through the build I was unsure of the shape so took some time out, to allow it to dry, and spent the time observing photos of Fleetwoods Boat Graveyard My conclusion was that the piece needed some height.
The form is currently slowly drying to enable texture work to start. Im happy with how the form has turned out so far but more work is needed.
