Stand & Deliver Part 4

My second piece for this project has been inspired by my mum. She was a housewife and stayed at home to bring up her family. Time was spent in the kitchen cooking, cleaning and creating lovely home cooked food and treats. Tubs of outdoor plants were placed by the wall near the back door of the kitchen. One particular favourite plant of hers was the Chinese Lantern also known as the Queen of Hearts.

I have created my nature inspired vessel upon this flower creating a set of three bowls. They will sit on a manmade stand which has been inspired by my family home. The house was built in the 1920s from Furness bricks and had a decorative feature under each window which has inspired my stand element. I have made the stand using the same raw materials used to make the house bricks and have used reclaimed stoneware clay to represent the mortar. There is definitely a stark contrast between the white fine delicate porcelain clay and the rough textured red clay.

This brick material will form part of my research therefore it was important for me to incorporate it into this project.
