My project involves making structural forms inspired by steam turbine designs, building on my work undertaken on the Stand & Deliver Project.
The designs will incorporate smooth carved work contrasting against a heavily textured clay body. A circle shape will be removed from the piece allowing the viewer to look through the sculpture. Early thought processes and construction are shown below.
Clay was manipulated into round disks of various thickness and size. Constraints from physical strength and kiln diameter limited the size of the largest piece. When drier each disk was roughly shaped to bring curves to each structure. Work was loosely wrapped for a week to allow moisture to be managed.

Time has been spent early in the make, considering how pieces will be installed and displayed. Initially I am wanting the pieces to be displayed outside in a garden environment however will their size have an effect on their impact in that setting.

Different carving techniques and tools have been explored but further work is required.
