Mari brought in a selection of bark and fallen wood, again the gnarly texture is grabbing my attention.
At the weekend I went on a walk looking for rotten wood, but no luck. The photo assignment however was much more fruitful. At low tide I got the opportunity to get close to the boat wrecks in Walney Channel.

The shapes were a bit more angler than what I have been creating so far, the rotten wood more organic in nature. The wood was covered in slimy moss so was difficult to see all the detail. Its given me a few more ideas for form.
I appreciated the holes that were in the wood something I have been trying to portray. Paint was not necessarily flaky but was worn away and sparse. Scroll to the right for the full gallery.
Will try to incorporate more ribs into my forms to see how that changes the dynamic of the piece.
It might be interesting to include the metal elements in the boats that create holes, or nails sticking up etc. Although this is my inspiration I certainly do not want to recreate in a literal sense what is in these photos so I need to be careful that I do not cross that line.
