Although the boat build will finish after I have completed my degree, the main frame is now complete. It has been useful to go back to my source material to keep me focused but also to explore shapes I previously did not document.
To show how the boat build has influenced my work I have pulled a booklet together of the boatbuilding process and referenced the elements which I have explored and incorporated into my work.
The following pictures show the bottom panel/garboard being placed into position along the frame. The plank of larch wood is twisted and bent into shape onto the boat frame with many different types of clamps. Each plank is bevelled by hand to allow a tight overlap from the proceeding plank so that the boat is watertight.
