In early April a few of us went to London for four days to be immersed in ceramics.

We spent a full day at the V&A, only in their ceramic section on the top floor. There were plenty of ceramics on the other floors but we ran out of time. I also went into the glass section on the way out to view the contemporary work on display. It was interesting to review the pictures I had taken both in the glass and ceramic areas of the museum.

The glassware was mainly neutral in colour except for the primary explosion of colours in the first picture! There was also a lot of texture to the pieces so I guess a leopard never changes its spots.

There was definitely a clear theme to the ceramic photos. Neutral colours, lots of texture, a nod to the art deco period, sense of place, large statement pieces and funeral work. Quite a mixture! In summary I think the size of the work and its connectedness to the past were key themes to the pieces I captured on my camera.

We even had time to go to the British Natural History Museum where I managed to take a picture of a fossilised tree trunk which provided a great reference for texture.
