I went on a course to learn how to stage photographs, consider lighting, positioning, backdrops and angles. So of course I had to put the learning into practice otherwise what is the point. Great fun was had lying on hard concrete, in wet grass or slippery mud just to get that perfect shot. Need more practice obviously but I am happy with what I have produced given I am such a novice.
I also took some pictures of my biggest work in the grounds of the university. These pieces were too heavy to carry long distances so this was a good option for me. As these pieces are made to go outside it was useful to have some photos of them in situ.
The photography department on site also took pictures of my final work which was a useful opportunity to learn how to place work to get the best from the piece and available light. Small movements made such a difference to the final photo.
