I have now made pieces using a variety of making methods: solid, coiling and slab building. There are many advantages and disadvantages with each method.
Solid:
Pro - able to get the shape I wanted easily, easy to carve into
Cons - heavy, difficult to handle, created lots of waste, cracking when hollow

Coiling:
Pro - easy to build, more control
Cons - time consuming, uneven thickness was an issue, heavyish as I didnt include inclusions in the build

Slab:
Pro - easier to get straight angles and flat edges
Cons - do not like constructing at leather hard stage, not in control, piece seemed to crack easier even though the piece was supported.

I have made a second piece using the slab method and I am still uncomfortable with this method but appreciate it is easier to get straight edges.

The construction of a new former will enable a fifth piece to be made. Have not decided the method yet but I hope this piece will help me to decide my making process. The solution maybe to incorporate a mixed method of the techniques above.
