Lofting is an incredibly complicated element in boat building. The shapes seen on the lofting board have greatly influenced my forms. I have incorporated macro and micro views together with the grid system, to acknowledge not just the structure of the boat but the way it has been fabricated using the interlocking lines as inspiration.
I am keen to reflect the strong engineering elements in the design particularly with regards to protecting the boat when launching and coming onto the shoreline. Construction methods using scarf joints will also reference the craftmanship employed by our skilled workforce.
The twenty photos below represent snapshots along the lofting board, highlighting important details of the centre line, the load water line, the interlocking nature of the four drawings (back, front, plan and profile views), together with the interplay between the grid system and the drawing lines.
