We are now midway into the term. I am liking the sawdust inclusion in the clay as it gives an interesting texture. Slicing into the clay with a knife is giving me the ridges I am after. The curves create a pleasing form. I think I prefer the singular forms although the shape in the top right corner works well.
Tearing and ripping the clay is creating lovely texture. I still need to incorporate brickclay into the mixture as this is an important element to my work. No further texture has been applied to these pieces so next step will be to explore how I can layer texture onto the forms. Its now at a stage where I need to start scaling up in size to see what challenges that will bring. As the mixture is quite crumbly I need to do more tests on sawdust to clay ratios to see what produces the best combination. Overall I am very happy where I am at this midway point.
