Over the last few months whilst in lockdown I have been watching films and YouTube videos and listening to podcasts of artists who I find interesting. Thought it would be prudent to capture a few points in my blog before they get lost in all the chaos that is currently my life at the moment.

His process seems more of a performance exploration to me. He tries to understand the process, how something is made, is to know more than just technique. Presence of people, looking into peoples lives in a profound way was the opening sentence of this film. He argues nature is everywhere so why bother mentioning it. Trying to make sense of the world. When the tree fell, you could feel the impact.
He went to Lancaster University to study art between 1974-75 but has been working with the land all his life. What was happening in his life at that time of making, are embedded in those works. To him, his pieces make sense of his life. Most important environment for him in his formative years was in farming. A stone has a geological story to tell.
My favourite quote in the film was "there are two different ways of looking at the world. You can walk along the path or walk through the hedge. Art makes you step aside of the normal way of looking". Learning to fall is important. Striving for that sense of balance amongst the chaos. Suddenly becomes clear. Leaning into the wind - the tension suspended.
