I decided to experiment with my broken piece when decorating with oxides. I am wanting to layer my decorating techniques so this is the first step in the process. I originally brushed porcelain slip prior to the bisque firing. This didn't achieve the results I was after. The slip was not flaky enough so next test is to apply slip to a bisque fired piece. See pictures below.
I used Tin, Titanium and Nickel Oxides. Once my glaze tests have been fired I can then start layering.
I also started to incorporate further texture as part of the decorating stage. Fired fragments of clay were either embedded into the wet clay or used as stamps to create irregular patterns and organic textures. Silicon Carbide was also mixed into slip to see if the firing process created texture. The results are certainly worth exploring further.
