A local potter showed me the work of Spanish visual artist Claudi Casanovas. The first thing that struck me was the texture of his work and the scale. The work was raw, no glaze, just the application of oxides, slips and the natural colour of the clay body. The cracks, the gnarly quality of the texture, the layering of slabs, the earthiness, the look of weathering - very satisfying. Something I would like to achieve in my own work. Although the majority of his work takes the form of a vessel, there are techniques which could be applied elsewhere.
