I have been refining my form in light of my research into building boats and playing to consider if they have the aesthetic quality I am trying to create.
How a form is positioned has a fundamental effect on how I feel about it. So in the first picture the long edge is lying down however in the second picture the long edge is upright. My response to the second picture is that the form has more life, more energy and is more preferred.
Observations have progressed into making small maquettes exploring shape, texture, groupings, construction techniques and modular construction.
Further shapes have been explored which have been informed by additional visits to the boatyard. Time has been spent evaluating how the forms look once glazed.
It has taken a very long time but I am feeling more confident in my form. There is still some refinement required and I also need to upscale the size. My view may change when the dimensions increase so I need to reflect on the proportions. I believe I understand why a form is aesthetically correct and what action I need to take to rectify it, understanding which has not been present before.
